Mamma

This play by Swedish writer Jörgen Gassilewski was written in 2001. A son is visiting his mother at the hospital. He has a troubled and difficult relationship to her. He tells her that he wants to have a sex change. Their conversation exposes a deep mistrust and an incapability of connecting. They are both falling apart, miserable in their loneliness. They are talking to each other, yes, but the brutality of the language and of their need to tell the truth about their feelings, pulls them further and further away from each other.
