Ghostsonata      Spöksonaten
1995

This late play by August Strindberg is a masterful concentration of one of the central themes in his oeuvre; the continuous repression humans exert on each other. The clash between the innocence of the young Student and the brutality of the Old Man, haunted by his memories, is in this staging, embedded in a sonic world of Indian sitar music and sharp electro acoustic music. The mode: a blurring of the border between the real and the imagined, between the pure and the haunted, where love dries out and dignity evaporates.

Performed at White Street Theater, the Soho Weaving Factory, New York City.
