My kind holds a cudgel in its hand, not an orange; those stories filled with my kind—old, cracked, dusty tales that tug and pull and turn us into pawns in the unfolding events, they are tragic. What would it be like, I wonder, if they weren’t there, if the tragic weren’t woven into the very fabric of all stories.
In his little room, with his head full of chatter and sounds, Io tries to become a bird, or some other creature that isn’t human. A musical drama that moves away from the world, down toward the underworld.
